The yarn

I used cotton yarn from Hobbii for this pattern. The yarn is sponsored, but I am not getting paid to say it is a nice yarn to work with!

I used a 2,5 mm crochet hook, but if you want a different size, you can choose a bigger hook and a thicker yarn. I also want to make a bigger one and use thick yarn. That would be fun. I’ll keep you posted.

About the pattern

All the parts on the crochet owl are made separately, The most advanced part is the wings, and I will make a video tutorial for that part.

As mentioned above, you can easily change the yarn and hook size to adjust it.

Abbreviations – US terms

ch– chain

r– round

st– stitch

Materials

-Crochet hook 2.5 mm
-This pattern uses baby cotton organic midi from Hobbii.com. Colors: cream (02), pink (13) and orange (different brand), and white.
-Tapestry needle
-8 mm safety eyes
-Stitch marker
-Stuffing materials

About the pattern

The owl is worked in continuous rounds using a 2.5 mm crochet hook. Use a stitch marker and move it up as you go.
All the parts are made separately. The colors and yarn types used in this pattern are optional.

To make a bigger/smaller cowl, use different yarn and hook.

Finished size: About 15 cm
Level: Advanced beginner

Instructions

    Eye patches
    Make 2 in pink or alternative color.

    R1: 6 sc in a mr (6 sc)
    R2: sc inc x 6 (12 sc)
    Sl st in the first st and fasten off. Leave a long strand for sewing.

    Head
    Use cream-colored yarn.

    R1: 6 sc in a mr (6 sc)
    R2: sc inc x 6 (12 sc)
    R3: (1 sc, sc inc) x 6 (18 sc)
    R4: (2 sc, sc inc) x 6 (24 sc)
    R5: (3 sc, sc inc) x 6 (30 sc)
    R6: (4 sc, sc inc) x 6 (36 sc)
    R7-13: 1 sc in each st
    R14: (4 sc, sc dec) x 6 (30 sc)
    R15: (3 sc, sc dec) x 6 (24 sc)
    Add stuffing.
    Sew on the eye patches between rows 8-11, and place them close enough to touch each other. Place the safety eyes in the middle of each eye patch.
    R16: (2 sc, sc dec) x 6 (18 sc)
    R17: (1 sc, sc dec) x 6 (12 sc)
    Sl st in the first st and fasten off. Leave a long strand for sewing.

    Beak
    Use orange or alternative color.

    Ch 5, 1 dc in the 3 ch from the hook, 1 hdc in the next, 1 sc in the last. Fasten off. Leave a long tail for sewing.

    Body
    Use pink yarn.

    R1: 6 sc in a mr (6 sc)
    R2: sc inc x 6 (12 sc)
    R3: (1 sc, sc inc) x 6 (18 sc)
    R4: (2 sc, sc inc) x 6 (24 sc)
    R5: (3 sc, sc inc) x 6 (30 sc)
    R7-13: 1 sc in each st

    Add stuffing.

    Wings
    Make 2. Use cream-colored yarn.

    R1: 6 sc in a mr (6 sc)
    R2: sc inc x 6 (12 sc)
    R3: (1 sc, sc inc) x 6 (18 sc)
    R4: (2 sc, sc inc) x 6 (24 sc)
    R5: (3 sc, sc inc) x 6 (30 sc)
    Sl st in the first st. Change color to pink. Fold the circle in half. Crochet through both sides. 1 sc in the first st, ch 3, sl st in the first ch (1 picot stitch). * 1 sc in next 3 st, 1 picot stitch on the sc *. Repeat from *-* 3 times until you have 5 picot stitches left. 1 sc in the next. 1 sc and 3 dc in the last st. Sl st in the same st to finish off.



    Eyebrows
    Use white or orange yarn.

    Ch 8, 1 sc in the next 7 sts. Fasten off. Leave a long tail for sewing.

    Feet
    Make 2. Use orange yarn.

    Ch 5. 1 sc in the next 4 ch. Sl st in the same st. Ch 5, 1 sc in the next 4 ch. Fasten off. Leave a tail for sewing.

    Assembly
    Sew the body and head together.
    Sew on the beak between the eyes.
    Sew on the wings on the side of the body, and start near the next (rows 16-17).
    Sew on the beak between the eyes.
    Sew the eyebrows on the top of the eye patches. Attach the feet.
