Today I am happy to share my latest ragdoll pattern with you! This time I made a crochet carrot! Since the bunnies and the Easter chicks was such a success, I got inspired to make this cute carrot.

If you are looking for a beginner-friendly and quick project, you have come to the right place! The crochet carrot is made with single crochet, nothing more! So this is a very beginner-friendly project.

Crochet carrot – the perfect play food!

I was thinking that this little carrot would be perfect as play food! I can imagine that little boys and girls would love to place with these. Maybe the crochet carrots can inspire them to eat more vegetables too!

I don’t know about you, but to me it sure looks like the bunnies are happy with getting their paws on this giant carrot! It looks like they want to become friends with the carrot, rather than eating it! Good news for the carrot!

You can make several carrots and put them in these baskets!

The crochet pattern for the basket can also be found on the blog!

Materials for the crochet carrot

Larry the carrot is made with sports weight yarn. You can also use worsted weight, but adjust the size of your hook to match the yarn.

I have used 10 mm Safety eyes. If you don’t have any safety eyes, you can sew them on if you want to. You’ll need a 3 mm crochet hook or a hook that matches your yarn.

Larry the Carrot

Larry the Carrot

The carrot consists of two panels. The panels are crocheted separately and then the pieces are placed together and crocheted together. Make sure that the face part is facing up. I lightly stuffed my carrot with some filling material.
Finished size: 14 cm (not including the carrot green).

Materials

  • Filling material
  • Crochet hook 3.0 mm/C2
  • Safety eyes 10 mm
  • Scissors
  • Skill level: Advanced beginner
  • Yarn, sports weight
  • Colors: Orange and green. Small amounts of black for eyelashes/eyebrows in sports weight yarn.
  • You’ll need about 20 g of orange yarn for one carrot.
  • You can also use worsted weight and a bigger hook, but be aware that this will impact the size.

Instructions

    Carrot

3.0 mm crochet hook. Make 2 panels in orange-colored yarn. The carrot panels are worked bottom up. Chain 1 and turn after each row.

Row 1: ch 2, 2 sc in the 2nd ch from the hook = 1 sc
    Row 2: 2 sc
    Row 3: inc, 1 sc = 3 sc
    Row 4: 3 sc
    Row 5: 2 sc, inc = 4 sc
    Row 6: 4 sc
    Row 7: inc, 3 sc = 5 sc
    Row 8: 5 sc
    Row 9: 4 sc, inc = 6 sc
    Row 10: 6 sc
    Row 11: inc, 5 sc = 7 sc
    Row 12: 7 sc
    Row 13: 6 sc, inc = 8 sc
    Row 14: 8 sc
    Row 15: inc, 7 sc = 9 sc
    Row 16: 9 sc
    Row 17: 8 sc, inc = 10 sc
    Row 18: 10 sc
    Row 19: inc, 9 sc = 11 sc
    Row 20: 11 sc
    Row 21: 10 sc, inc = 12 sc
    Row 22: 12 sc
    Row 23: sc2tog, 8 sc, sc2tog = 10 sc
    Row 24: sc2tog, 6 sc, sc2tog = 8 sc
    Row 25: sc2tog, 4 sc, sc2tog = 6 sc
    Row 26: sc2tog, 2 sc, sc2tog = 4 sc

Fasten off on the first panel, but not on the second. Make the face on the second part. Fasten safety eyes between rows 16-17, 4 sc stitches space apart (or whatever looks best). Sew on eyebrows/eyelashes and a mouth with some black yarn. Use pink yarn to make blush.

Lay the panels on each other and single crochet them together. Chain 1, and do one single crochet in each stitch through both panels. Remember to add stuffing before closing.

When you get to the pointy part, just continue putting one single crochet through both panels.
Add stuffing when you get to the face.

    Finish stuffing before you close.

    Carrot green

Make 2 long carrot greens and two short ones.
Long carrot green: Ch 21, 2 sc in the 2nd ch from the hook and 3 sc in each ch. = 60 sc
Short carrot green: Ch 16, 2 sc In the 2nd ch from the hook and 3 sc in each ch = 45 sc
    Assembly

Sew the carrot green on top of the carrot’s head. If you want the carrot green to stand a little, wind some green yarn around all the spiral green.
