With summer rapidly approaching it’s getting towards that time when we’re going to be spending an awful lot more time out in the garden. But why don’t you go ahead and take a look out in your garden right now.

Probably not the prettiest sight in the world right now, is it? And that’s entirely understandable because we’re coming off the colder months where there isn’t really a whole lot of point in taking particularly good care of your garden.

You’re never going to be out there anyway so it’s kind of just a waste of time and money. But now is when that starts to change. Now is when you want your garden to be a place where that it’s actually pleasant and relaxing to spend time in.

After the drab and dreary Winter and all of the darkness and grey, what you really want to see now is a little bit of colour. There’s no better way to add that generous dash of colour than by crocheting some garden decorations of your own.

Let’s have a look at some beautiful crochet ideas to touch up your garden this Summer:

Floral Cushion

If you’ve got garden furniture, it’s always nice to have some cushions on there, both for comfort and for the fact that it makes them look really nice. There’s a number of different cushion patterns that you can crochet, but a floral pattern is always nice and it suits the time of year.

Here’s a great one that you can try which will give you a layered flower look which can be very colourful. You can achieve this by using just a few different basic stitches including a slip stitch, a double crochet, a treble and a half treble.

How this works is that you will crochet this in layers and each layer can be a different colour and this can continue until you have the full cushion completed. It’s a long enough process but it will run smoothly once you get the hang of working on each layer.

Throw Blanket

In addition to having cushions, another thing that looks really nice on garden furniture is a good throw blanket. It’s also something that you can have out there for when you’re hanging out out there in the evening and it starts to get a little chilly.

Much like the cushions, let’s focus on a floral pattern. This one is beautiful and although it is a relatively complex project, the tutorial does a great job of explaining how to put this blanket together most effectively.

You’re really making both a rug and a throw in one large project and it’s made up of a series of different hexagonal shaped motifs which you will develop individually as a part of the overall piece.

Air Plant Pots

Many people want to have some plants decorating their home and their garden when summer comes around but don’t want to have to go through the whole process of taking care of them and all that that entails.

And if you are one of those people, you actually have an option that involves not a whole lot of maintenance: Air plants. These fellas absorb water from their leaves so you don’t even need soil. They’re still plants so there is still some care involved, but it’s quite minimal.

And because you don’t need soil, you can keep them in tiny crochet pots. Very quick and easy to make and they just look really pleasing.

Hacky Sack

There’s more to do in the garden than just sitting. Hacky sack is a fun little activity that anyone can do and it would be interesting if the sack that you were using was actually a little crochet invention of your own.

And this is so, so easy to make. All you need is a roll of yarn which you will then crochet into a single pouch, and then you place a cluster of poly-beads into a nylon sock. Place the sock inside the pouch and close up the top.

A really, really simple project that gives you or your kids a fun little activity to do in the garden during the summer.

Kneeling Garden Cushion

If you’re out enjoying the sunlight and you’re feeling the itch to try your hand at a little bit of gardening, that’s great because it’s an awesome summer activity but you can also combine your crocheting hobby with gardening in a couple of ways.

Firsty, gardening takes it out of you in a couple of ways, especially when you’re out in the heat and it tends to be really hard on your knees. Kneeling out on the hard ground for hours at a time can get really painful.

But you can crochet yourself a little cushion to kneel out to help alleviate this. This isn’t anything fancy because it’s just going on the ground and so it’s also not a tough one to make.

Garden Bag

So if you do want to try some gardening you should know that it requires an awful lot of tools if you want to do an efficient job of it. You’ll need things like spades, trowels, gloves and pruning shears and it can be hard to carry all of that around with you.

That’s why it’s a good idea to have a gardening bag with you. A way to keep all of these tools on your person. And if you crochet it yourself then that’s all the better, you can design it your way and have all the pockets and pouches you need.

This one is about 15 inches long, and 11 inches deep so it’s really the perfect size for the job and shouldn’t be a huge challenge to put together.

So as you can see there are numerous ways to use your crocheting ability to your advantage when you’re trying to get your garden summer ready. And when the weather is really nice you can definitely just sit out in the garden and work on some of these awesome projects.

We hope that you found some great DIY crochet projects for your garden!
